At Nova Smiles Dental, we are passionate about helping kids of all ages achieve and maintain bright, healthy smiles. The earlier children start getting regular dental checkups, the better. Doing so will help their mouths stay healthy throughout childhood and well into adulthood.
At our family-friendly practice, we offer many children’s dental services in a comfortable and nurturing environment. Drs Jenny Hong and Manika Manika (Dentists) enjoy treating young patients, including those who are nervous about visiting the dentist.
The Importance of Preventative Care
Taking a preventative approach versus a reactive one is always best. Most dental issues can be avoided. That’s why we recommend that you schedule your child for a checkup every six months from the time their first teeth erupt. We will assess the following at each visit:
- Tooth alignment
- Development of unerupted teeth
- Habits such as thumb, finger sucking, tongue thrusting, or mouth breathing
- Speech concerns
- Signs of gingivitis and tooth decay
- Oral hygiene habits
- Normal jaw joint and muscle function
- Sleep disordered breathing
What to Expect at the First Visit
To help kids feel comfortable with coming in for dental care, their initial appointment is focused on familiarising them with the process. Your dentist will check your child’s teeth and teach them about the dental chair and checkup instruments. As your child’s dentist checks each tooth, the Nova Smiles Dental team will also work to build rapport with your child. We do so to reduce any nervousness or discomfort. Kids will then feel comfortable getting care. Depending on your child’s age and comfort level, we may also polish their teeth or take a few X-rays.
Providing Comfortable Treatment
If we determine that your child has a cavity or other dental concern, it’s essential that we provide treatment as soon as possible. Drs Jenny Hong and Manika Manika (Dentists) are confident and experienced in caring for young ones. Rest assured that if your child needs some added comfort and care, we offer relaxation options including relative analgesia (laughing gas). With laughing gas, we can complete necessary procedures while younger patients are relaxed, comfortable and at ease.
